Distinguished: VSM ACTIROX receives the German Innovation Award 2019 in Gold

Yesterday, on 28 May 2019 at an award ceremony in Berlin, VSM’s latest ceramic-grain abrasive ACTIROX was honoured with the “German Innovation Award”, “Gold”, in the “Materials & Surfaces” category. With its aggressive and rapid cutting action, it allows steels and high-alloyed steels to be ground in the shortest possible time – and significantly increases productivity.

Gold for VSM in the “Materials & Surfaces” category
VSM ACTIROX receives the coveted award in the “Excellence in Business to Business – Materials & Surfaces” category, awarded by the German Design Council. The Council awards this prize to distinguish solutions and products that span multiple market segments and set themselves apart from existing solutions as a result of their innovation and added value. “According to the call for submissions, the decisive criteria for the best innovations included, in particular, considerable user benefits, effectiveness and economic efficiency. ACTIROX literally meets all these requirements with 100 percent agreement”, says Simon Heuer, Head of Global Product Management and Application Engineering, who together with Clemens Megerle, Head of Production & Development of Abrasive Grains, will accept the award on behalf of VSM at the awards ceremony held in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin.

“The evaluation of the submitted innovations focuses on user centricity. This is the differentiating characteristic of the German Innovation Award”, explains Andrej Kupetz, General Manager of the German Design Council. “This is particularly successful when the future users are involved in the product design development from an early stage. Many companies have recognised this and employ appropriate methods in order to develop an optimum product.”

Grinding at high speed with maximum stock removal
With its newly developed geometrically shaped grains that sharpen themselves continuously, ACTIROX allows high-speed grinding and thus achieves twice the stock removal compared to traditional ceramic grain abrasives. This results in decreasing running costs and a significant and verifiable increase in productivity for the user: “For our customers, this means a clear advantage over the stiff competition. As one of the world’s leading providers of ceramic grain abrasives, we are extremely proud of the award for our high-tech ceramics, which were developed in house and are Made in Germany,” says Heuer.

Innovations with added value – the German Innovation Award
The German Innovation Award is initiated and run by the German Design Council, which was set up in 1953 by the German Parliament and is funded by The Federation of German Industries. Over the last 66 years, the foundation has pursued the goal of promoting the competitiveness of German companies.

The evaluation criteria for the German Innovation Award encompass topics such as user benefits, economic efficiency and the degree of innovation. The innovation strategy should cover aspects such as social, ecological and economic sustainability and the use of energy and resources. The winners were selected by a first-class jury – whose members included independent, interdisciplinary experts from industry, science, institutions and finance.
